Federated States of Micronesia

The Federated States of Micronesia consists of four major island groups, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Kosrae and Yap, that have a total surface area of 700 sq. km and are spread over 2.6 million sq. km of the western Pacific. The 607 islands vary from high, mountainous terrain to coral atolls. Fishing and farming provide income, but the USA supports the islands. Tourist attractions include diving, especially on war-time wrecks in Chuuk, and ancient ruins in Pohnpei.

The climate is tropical, with heavy year-round rainfall and occasional typhoons.
